Dairy Manager

The Kreider Farms Dairy Manager will oversee the 24/7 dairy farm operation.  The Dairy Manager will be responsible for managing the Kreider Farms dairy labor and staff, the dairy herd, herd health, livestock feeding, treatment of animals, cleaning and maintenance of buildings, equipment and other assumed dairy activities and animal husbandry duties.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities of Herd Manager, Reproductive Manager, Lead Herdsman, Maintenance Manager, Heifer Manager, and Feed Manager.
  • Recruit, train, and manage farm staff, ensuring proficiency in their roles.
  • Create and sustain a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and communication.
  • Able to manage and motivate employees through positive leadership.
  • Able to communicate professionally with employees and vendors to maximize safety, quality, and production.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of milk production, adhering to relevant quality standards.
  • Implement and monitor quality control measures to maintain product integrity.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for dairy employees.
  • Handle emergency situations at the farm no matter the time of day, and serve as a reliable first line of contact.
  • Monitor herd health and implement herd health protocols.
  • Manage breeding programs.
  • Knowledgeable in dairy nutrition.
  • Knowledgeable in disease control and can identify illness, injury treatment, pregnancy checking and other animal health activities.
  • Oversee milk production, quality control, and storage procedures.
  • Supervise milking procedures and routine compliance, monitoring udder health and cow well-being to maintain and enhance milk quality.
  • Identify gaps and enhancements in event recording to provide essential insights for decision-making.
  • Partner and work with veterinarians.
  • Act as farm’s liaison to nutritionists, feed salesmen, and veterinarians (or as directed by Farm & Dairy Site Manager).
  • Stay up-to-date with records of herd health, production, and reproduction inventories.
  • Implement innovative solutions to improve farm operations and productivity.
  • Utilize data and analytics to make informed decisions and optimize farm performance.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in dairy farming technology and best practices.
  • Develop, implement, and enhance dairy management protocols as needed, including feeding, breeding, health, and milking procedures.
  • Oversee the milking process, ensuring high standards of hygiene and efficiency.
  • Implement and monitor breeding programs to maintain herd productivity and genetic quality.
